Mock interview/techniques - BBC pitch
This post goes over my long process into creating interview techniques and processes to help me eventually understand how it traditionally goes and help me with eventually doing my own after getting research into each area. To help me develop my ability's to perform in an interview situation. I started with researching into elements of landing a perfect interview and how dressing, manners, posture and more is important to understanding a professional interview. I needed to research into mock interviews because i was tasked with presenting a pitch idea of a original programmed for BBC television, radio or online channels. This was do be delivered and seen by David Longworth, who is a new Talent schemes Manager for the BBC. David has responsibilities for apprenticeships for the BBC as well so this was a very exciting opportunity personally and professionally I was able to potentially gain experience not only in interviewing and how it works but potentially being lined up for an apprenticeship for the BBC. As well as conventional question bases in face to face interviews, the media industry often in most cases has a selection criteria involving presentation elements, these can often be delivered in digital technologies such as Zoom, Teams, Skype and Google meet.
PowerPoint of research -
PowerPoint of pitch -
In this PowerPoint I discuss my potential BBC TV show idea. In the future this show/idea could get funding and potentially be on air if its received well I made this PowerPoint with the intention of education, fun, mental health and hobbies I wanted to make a type of chill show that any person could relate or watch in this PowerPoint I talk about airing times, target audience, pricing and more. The idea is a simple but has the potential to grow into different areas and could become more mainstream
After assessing and researching into good practice and effective interview factors for the BBC interview I then produced a idea/concept to deliver to David for the BBC pitch. After i produced a idea i met with David through teams and sat with him for roughly 15 mins to deliver my pitch.
Video of Final pitch -
This was a video of me and David talking and discussing my idea for the BBC pitch I presented a 7 slide document of my idea and how I will integrate it into the BBC as well as budgeting and release times and how my idea is different from the rest. I responded with professional and thought provoking answers to show I am determined and wanting this idea to succeed.
This were the photos my lecturer 'Sally Taylor' took from my presentation with David Longworth she was a key supervisor and organized the timing of the presentation making sure it went smoothly. The presentation was a key development for me into interviewing and expressing creativity I now understand how traditional interview's goes.
Evaluation of my process -
First of all I feel I've learnt many things ranging from confidence skills, professions and how to act in an interview I also feel I've learnt how to manage and understand timing within one. Researching into interview's and everything in between has helped me understand them overall better. Without it I don't think my BBC pitch wouldn't have went as well as it could of. I feel in terms of skills i have increased my speaking skills I have problems with stuttering when talking about things I'm excited about or interested in but with preparation and research I have understood maintaining a strong voice as I'm talking to the interviewee. I think personally I could develop on researching into specific sources as I was talking to David some of my information or based facts tended to be a bit wrong or not the right area i was looking for it was a common mistake that can make my interview's really bad because it looks like I wasn't trying, next time I will research more carefully and understand sources a bit better since it will help my projects and interview's a whole lot better. This experience has helped me greatly in both being professional within media and explaining and pitching possible ideas which is something I'm going to have to get used to as well as its helped me understand how I should act into an interview research into interview's is one thing but being in one has really helped me understand how I should act and how that can determine the overall project itself.
Overall I think the pitch with David Longworth went really great we had a good conversation like flow and he asked me important questions which I was happy to answer because I was passionate about the possible idea and he loved it as well. I'm also glad I researched into interviewing and more because it made the eventual pitch better.
