Creating a showreel
In this PowerPoint I go over potential ideas for my personal and future show reel I also look into 3 examples in depth and analysis what is in each example and how its different from each one. I also decided to talk about and write what is a show reel? how its made? how its done? and more I thought all of these were important to eventually create my own its important to understand what a show reel is and how its done firstly.

Each one shows different ways of doing a show reel but they all share common grounds in editing music, style and more i think each are a perfect example of what a show reel should be and what content could be included.

Planning stage -
Firstly I'm going to select and pick the best samples out of the exampled work I've done and put them in a show reel style and see how it goes and get a rough idea of how things will look in the first draft of my show reel, I'm looking for it to be under two minutes minimum as well, After doing a rough first draft to see the overall look and potential I'm going to asses and gather feedback on the video and apply and make it better as many times as I think the show reel needs.
Show reel draft 1 -
This was my first draft of my show reel to get a rough sense of the clips and how the overall format could work and see the potential to see the show reel grow and improve but get a starting sense from now to see how I could make it the best possible version of it. I decided to get feedback from googles forms to see what people think overall of the video and see what i could improve and possibly could change I would adapt these changes into draft 2 after getting the assessed feedback.
Feedback I got from my show reel draft (1) -
Overall the feedback i got people said overall the video was okay at best it was good but could be way better I'm completely agree with the feedback and what people are saying I intentionally made the first draft not great because i wanted to see the idea of the show reel by making it rough i wanted to create a almost sketch plan version of it and work it from there.
As well as people were saying I got tons of possible improvement's for the second draft people said I should add a caption or a intro sequence kind of to give it more personality, people also said I should add my business card/ logo, People also said spend more time on editing and finalizing as well as people said add fade out effects and shortening the clips and splicing them more to make it more fast paced I agree with all of this feedback and i think its great for what i could possibly and should add it. I'm going to add all this assessed feedback and see overall how the second draft is looking and get some feedback once again on the version of the show reel and go from there.
Process into creating a show reel and drafts -
Firstly I want to say why i didn't show my process and craft into creating the first draft is because it wasn't a very developed editing process it was a couple of editing techniques and splicing it wasn't worthy of analyzing and going through the process in my second draft and third they both have the same features way more than draft 1 so I thought it would better to show my progress into creating the second draft and what came with it. In draft 3 it has the exact same process listed in draft 2 but just more time spend on the induvial project.
These were all of the clips I used some of them were a mix of planning and actually in through each draft some images and audios listen weren't included here because i felt they didn't work in any example of the draft but i wanted to still try new things for each show reel throughout. Nonetheless this was a file I name 'Show reel clips and images' in this is all of the work I used to create all 3 of my show reels drafts.
This was a look of my timeline Work box to where i grabbed the files i needed which included video tracks from previous work loads and audio tracks, logos and business cards it was all of the stuff i experimented with as well seeing what could work and what couldn't but in it every file talked about beforehand was put in here for me to create each draft from scratch.
This was a look of my timeline throughout creating the three drafts i spliced up each clip and sorted them in a random -ish order to create a messy but fast paced show reel video i aso organazied each file into a single bar mainly because it helped give me an understanding of it being one finished video and allowed me to work on captions or fitting them into the right space as well. This was before i rendered each draft because i wanted to make sure each clip felt long enough or fit in the first place as you can see in the image if its on the first blue timeline bar it means it perfectly ready to be finished.
This was one of three tools i used throughout creating the drafts this was a selection tool (V) i used this mainly to grab, move, find and organize clips throughout the edtiting process its a very straighforward tool ive used for many years and helped me make each draft better than the last.
This is another tool (second of the three i used) this was a razor tool/cutting tool (C) i used this to create and shorten and splice clips from each video to put in a random order for the show reel to succseed and and look good The razor tool was used alot through and in each draft because of the idea of mixing and matching clips over music it was proberly my most used in this project.
This was the final tool i used throughout the drafts it the type tool/ text box tool (T) some people call it It was a easy tool to learn and i used this mainly throughout the second and third draft this was because of me wanting and creating captions and worded desrciptions over certain clips. I could also edit colours shapes, fonts and shadows through this tool to give the text examples a bit more of a finish and fitting look in my show reel.
This was the graphic/captions sections i used for the intro sequence people were suggesting in my feedback for draft 1 i had tons of options to experment with and it was a easy process to drag and click onto the timeline and resize at will. Very similiar to the type tool i used throughout they both went in hand in hand to create each draft.
This was the effect controls tab i used frequently to match and fit the captions and intro making and postition each one to fit the scene of the clip i moved and scaled each down as u can see as well it shows my setting for masking this was an effect i used for the feedback i got for the second draft for the business card which you will further down. This was a helful and massive part of creating a show reel postition and making sure the captions are the right size and where there are placed seperated the show reel from a gimmicky video to a creative proffesional output.
This was the effects tab i used for the end of the my show reel specifally for my business card this was because i wanted to blur and block out certain things on the business card because its personal info and it doesnt need to be in the show reel to make it good. Camer blur and channel blur were the main two i used throghout i find camera blur was handy for the second blurring it as for the channel blur i could blur certain areas so both came in handy with differant ways of blurring personal information.
This was a look at one of the better versions i used for draft three to create and blur my personal phone number because it doesnt need to be on the show reel for it to be successful i used channel blur where i blurred a certain area and just dragged and fitted over my phone number so it could still see the overall look of the business without comprising personal details.
This was a look at the settings from the effect controls in detial to the blur tab as you can see i changed and fitted each setting to work and to corrospond with the card in some cases it would blur the whole card and make it look messy thats when i used the circle tool and created a blurred circle and fitted over the phone number and just adapted to make it better overall. I kept the blur percentage at 7 because its quite a strong blur and i felt i didnt need any more than 7 if i went higher the whole area is blurry and it looks quite bad so i think it works great in this format.
This was a look of me rendering my video as you can see areas on the timeline are yellow and red meaning there arent sequenced properly this can mean fps drops in the finished product and overall can effect the video quality so rendering in to out from start to finish made it all turn green which means every second/segment is good for exporting or ready for upload.
This was a Final task along all three drafts i decided to do which is called exporting and chaning the video file and making into one sequenced one i changed teh output name of course and dropped into a secure file and changed the quality to 1080p HD to maximize quality assurance across. Then i clicked the export button at the bottom right and just waiting for my finished set show reel draft to be done.
Second show reel draft (2) -
This was my second draft of my show reel and in this version i added the same music and more style and editing but also improved on care and management. I also made and adapted the feedback listen for show reel and fitted into my second draft which, add a intro, business card effects, transtitions shorter clips, make it faster paces and more I made sure to listen to all of this feedback and adapt to where i see fit into this version overall this a much better version mainly because i actually enjoyed and was caring about the product whilst show reel draft 1 was messy on purpose for the sake of planning. The second draft is great and way better than the first my next step is to get feedback and see if any final changes need to be amended from it and i can fitted into my final and third draft.
Feedback i got for show reel draft (2) -
The feedback i gathered from draft was very positive and overall a much better look than show reel draft 1 people said that its a lot better but still can be improved slightly the feedback that people were suggesting were, try new music, randomize clips a little more, have more variety, add captions and subtitles for description, try different intro and credit styles, add more fading, increase the length of the business card for people to see.
This was all great feedback that is very helpful i agree which will make the show reel in draft 3 the best version yet I think all of this feedback can work and is a great addition and change to draft 2 overall I like draft 2 a lot more than draft 1 but i think draft 3 will be the final version because it feels like its close to perfection.
Third and final show reel draft (3) -
Final feedback for show reel draft (3) -
Overall people were very postive to the look of the final version finalizing my thoughts about i also agree its the best version ive done people were helful in creating and adapting my show reel each draft along the way so its fantastic to see people finally settle and enjoy this version. I think its the best version yet and is going to be my final version/ show reel.
